The computer industry entrepreneur Steven Paul Jobs, b. 1955, together with Steve WOZNIAK, designed and built a user-friendly personal computer that became the cornerstone of Apple Computer Company. By 1984 with Jobs as chairman, Apple had become a billion dollar company largely responsible for the microcomputer explosion of the late 1970s and early 1980s. After dropping out of college, Jobs designed video games and backpacked across India before forming the fledgling company with Wozniak in 1976. As the company expanded and gained success, Jobs concentrated on marketing. Shortly after a management reorganization in which he retained his position of chairman of the board, but was relieved of many of his day to day management responsibilities, Jobs resigned his position to found a new company.
